# Ask your Companion for help

> What to ask in Companion Studio, what to expect back and where you stay in control

Companion Studio is where you talk to your Companion in the browser. You write
what you want in your own words. Your Companion answers and, where it can,
helps you carry the task through.

<Warning>
  Companion Studio is in Alpha. Screens, names and what is available to your
  account can still change.
</Warning>

## Before you start

* You need a kombify account. See [Open the Workbench](/apps/ai/open-the-workbench).
* What you can use depends on your account. If something is missing, it is not
  switched on for your account yet.

## What you can ask

Describe your goal and anything that matters, like limits or preferences. These
are the kinds of requests kombify itself suggests:

* "Help me choose a first service for my Homelab."
* "Explain what I need to host my photos locally."
* "Help me plan a backup for my personal files."
* "Explain what stays local when I use StackKits."
* "Turn this task into a short plan I can review."
* "Explain how I can check that a restore worked."

You can also ask questions about kombify and how to set things up or fix them.

## Ask your first question

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Companion Studio">
    Go to `workbench.kombify.io` and sign in.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Take the short tour">
    On your first visit a short tour shows where things are. You can skip it
    and start right away. You can start it again later from the user menu.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Write your request">
    Type your goal in the message box. One clear request works better than
    many at once.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the answer">
    Check it before you act on it. If you need more detail, ask in the same
    conversation.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Choose who you talk to

A switcher shows what you are talking to. Your Companion is the default. A
Factory focuses the conversation on one area of your setup. You can also change
how the answer is made, for example by turning on deeper reasoning or allowing
web access, when those controls are offered to you.

## What your Companion will not do on its own

* **It can be wrong.** AI can make mistakes. Check important information
  yourself.
* **It does not skip your approval.** Actions that change real systems can have
  real effects. kombify checks policies and trust levels first, and sensitive
  or destructive actions wait for your explicit approval. You can approve or
  deny.
* **It only does what your account allows.** Features and models depend on
  your account and on what kombify has switched on.

## If something goes wrong

1. Reload the page and open your conversation again.
2. If the answer does not appear, send your message again.
3. If you see a message that something is not available, it is not available
   for your account right now. Try again later.
4. If you cannot sign in, see [Sign-in problems and account basics](/apps/cloud/sign-in-and-account).
5. Still stuck? Write to [info@kombify.io](mailto:info@kombify.io). Say what you
   asked, what you expected, and when it happened. Never send a password.
