SpeechKit has two independent privacy settings. Set both on purpose. This page
helps you choose without technical background.
Question 1: where may SpeechKit connect?
This is the Network Scope.
If you choose a stricter scope, settings that do not fit are paused, not
deleted. Settings explains what is disabled and why.
Question 2: what should be kept?
This is the Retention Scope.
The two settings do not depend on each other. A computer that never connects to
the internet still saves transcripts unless you also choose Zero retention.
Which provider will my voice go to?
SpeechKit does not make an external provider local. Read the provider’s privacy
terms before you send sensitive audio.
A good default for sensitive work
Choose This device only, a local provider and Zero retention. Zero
retention does not make an external provider forget what you sent it, which is
why the local provider matters.
