Every kombify.me address points somewhere. There are three kinds. Pick the one that matches where your app lives.

The three kinds

How to choose

  1. Can someone outside your home open the app’s web address today? If yes, choose a public address.
  2. Do you just want a nicer name for a page that already lives elsewhere? Choose a redirect.
  3. Is the app only reachable at addresses like 192.168.x.x or localhost? Choose a private address.
A public address never accepts a private, loopback or link-local address. This protects your home network. If you try, you get an error and nothing is saved.

What a private address needs

  • A Techstack node agent running at home that can reach the app.
  • The agent must stay connected. If it is disconnected, visitors get a “try again in a few seconds” answer (503).
  • Pages and files are limited to 10 MiB per request or response and 30 seconds per request. Live streams and arbitrary network connections are not supported.
See Reach a private service for the full path.

Public does not mean “everyone must see it”

A public address can be opened by anyone who knows it, unless your app asks for a login. The app keeps its own sign-in and cookies. Keep apps with sensitive data behind their own login, or leave them off until you are ready. Every app also starts switched off. Nobody can open it until you switch it on. kombify.me can also share an app for a limited time with named visitors. That is a separate feature with its own owner controls in the kombify dashboard. It is not covered here.

If something goes wrong

Hosted *.lan.kombify.me names are not implemented. StackKits provides names inside your home network.
